The Zones of Regulation Summer 2018 Social Skills Course for kids in Grades 3-5
The purpose of the Zones of Regulation group is to provide children with the opportunity to learn about how to regulate their emotions and improve their social skills. Many children have an innate drive to interact with others. However, for some children this does not come naturally. This group provides children with the unique opportunity to practice regulating their body and emotions in a fun and structured environment. Each group will be led by skilled occupational therapists who are trained to facilitate and guide children’s learning.
Group Topics include:
- Emotions - Children will learn about the emotions they experience every day, what triggers these emotions, and how to tell others what they are feeling.
- Social awareness - Children will gain an understanding of how their behavior affects those around them.
- Sensory Tools - Children will explore various activities to help them regulate their energy level. Some tools are used to increase alertness while other tools are used to calm.
- Zones Check-in - Children will learn how to better manage their emotions by applying all the concepts learned throughout the program in order to have successful interactions with others.
