Speech Therapy
Speech therapists specialize in the evaluation and treatment of communication disorders and swallowing disorders. We offer a variety of speech and language pathology services in our rehabilitation unit. Speech and language pathologists are a part of the rehabilitation team who provide assessment and treatment services to patients with speech, language, cognitive or swallowing difficulties.
In speech pathology we evaluate and treat outpatients and inpatients with receptive/expressive speech and language disorders. We also address cognitive impairments in memory/orientation, attention, reasoning, problem solving and judgment. In addition, we also evaluate and treat swallowing disorders and offer neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) as part of our treatment regimens, which provides a more intensive intervention when appropriate.
Speech therapy may include:
- Language comprehension.
- Verbal expression.
- Chewing and swallowing.
- Voice production.
- Memory.
- Cognitive abilities.
